SPIRO SPEAKING VALVE,  P/N 710 and 711

USER INFORMATION                            edition 3

The cover is provided with a tapered section which can be pressed into the valve housing. The further it is pressed in, the tighter the cover is secured.

DAILY CHECKS: Check valve operation daily and inspect for damage. Replace valve with new unit in case of damage or defective operation.

CLEAN the valve housing daily. Do not use sharp tools. Use the fingers or a plastic tweezers. The valve housing and cover must be dried in air after washing with water (washing-up liquids, solvents or other liquids must not be used). Always check the operation again after cleaning and check that the air passages are free.

THE FILTER SHOULD BE REPLACED every day or more frequently if required. Ensure that the filter is seated against the bottom of the filter housing with adjustment all round.

A HEAT SHIELD/SHOWER PROTECTOR (P/N 730) should be used as required with the inhalation opening facing downward.

The WHITE NIPPLE PROTECTOR (applies to P/N 710) should normally be fitted to the speaking valve and removed only when oxygen is being supplied.

The SPEAKING VALVE should be replaced with a new unit after two weeks of use, or more frequently if necessary.

N.B. THE SPEAKING VALVE MUST NEVER BE USED WITHOUT A FILTER OR IN COMBINATION WITH A CUFFED CANNULA WITHOUT FENESTRATION!!!
The valve must not be used while the patient is sleeping or otherwise when the patient’s consciousness is impaired. Use a SPIRO HUMIDIFIER (P/N 702) in such cases.

The SPEAKING VALVE is a one-way valve which opens ONLY FOR INHALATION. The exhalation passages MUST BE OPEN.

Ensure that the valve is not obstructed by phlegm or other substances.
